According to government, cases of gonorrhea are increasing in Nunavut
The government of Nunavut states that there are an increasing number of cases of gonorrhea in the community, especially in the Kitty Kumot region.
In a public health advisory news release on Tuesday afternoon, the local ministry of health said it could prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases by practicing safe sex like wearing a condom. It also required people to be tested, be careful of their partners, and be treated as needed.
“The more partners you have, the more risky you are,” said the news release.
The government says infections can be easily tested with antibiotics and treated. However, if left untreated, he said that gonorrhea may cause chronic pelvic pain in women and infertility in both men and women.
