Turkish forces clash with Kurdish Syrian fighters – BBC News

About sixty thousand people have fled their homes in northeastern Syria on the second day of a major ground attack and attack by Turkish forces. There have been fierce fighting in the central border region. Some civilians have been killed and dozens more injured on both sides of the border. Turkish President Erdogan believes Kurdish fighters in Syria are terrorists: more than one hundred are killed.

Turkey is trying to reclaim its land along the border, claiming that Syria is a “safe zone” to repair some millions of Syrian refugees who have fled the eight-year war.

Sophie Raworth presented the day’s news round with BBC International correspondent Orla Guerin, Middle East Quentin Sommerville and North American editor Jon Sopel.
