How to spread COVID-19

Spread from person to person

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person to person.

• Between people who are in close contact with each other (within approximately 6 feet).
• Through respiratory droplets that occur when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

These droplets can hit the mouth or nose of people who are nearby or possibly inhaled into the lungs.

Can someone spread the virus without getting sick?

• People are considered to be the most contagious when they are the most symptomatic (ill).
• It may be possible for some spread before people show symptoms. There have been reports of this occurring with this new coronavirus, but it is not believed to be the main cause of the spread of the virus.

Spread from contact with contaminated surfaces or objects

It is possible that COVID-19 can be obtained by touching the surface or object on which the virus is attached and touching it with your mouth, nose, or perhaps your eyes, which is believed to be the main method of the virus. Does not spread.

How easy the virus is to spread

The spread of the virus from person to person varies. Some viruses are highly contagious (easily spread) like measles, while others are not so easy. Another factor is whether the spread will persist and will continue to widen without stopping.

Prevention and treatment

There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease in 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to prevent exposure to this virus. However, the CDC always recommends daily precautions to prevent the spread of respiratory illness, including:

• Avoid close contact with sick people.
• Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue and throw it in the trash.
• Use regular household cleaning sprays or wipes to clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
• Wear a mask or face cover in public areas.

Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom. Before meals; after blowing nose, coughing or sneezing.
