Seven people died and dozens infected after “Superspreader” wedding in rural U.S.

A wedding in the countryside of Maine was a “superspreader” event for the coronavirus that killed seven people and infected 177 people in the northeastern state of the United States, hoping that the worst of the pandemic would be behind it. Renewed fear of illness.
65 people attended the wedding reception in early August, exceeding the official limit of 50 people allowed at the rally.

On Thursday, the center’s local director, Nirafu Shah, made the latest victims of the event, adding that none of the seven who died were actually attending the wedding.
Contact tracers have linked the wedding to several virus hotspots throughout the state. There were more than 80 incidents in a prison 230 miles (370 km) away, and one of the guards attended the ceremony.
Another 10 suspected cases were found at the Baptist Church in the same area, with 39 infections and 6 deaths occurring in a special nursing home 100 miles from Millinocket.
The news was a brutal awakening call for communities and wider areas where the rules of social distance were relaxed, introduced early in the crisis.
“Everyone was really depressed when we heard about the outbreak,” said Cody McCuen, head of the city council.
“As soon as the outbreak occurred, we closed the town completely again.”

Some residents were clearly angry with the organizers of the event. It started in a tavern where the license was temporarily suspended.
“I don’t think they should have wedding.. I think it should have been restricted as it should have been. ” Nina Obrikis, a member of the Baptist Church where the ceremony took place, said.
“We can’t go anywhere and we can’t do anything,” she said.
Maine Governor Janet Mills warned 1.3 million residents of the state on Thursday.
Such a relapse “is threatened to cancel the profits we earned by dropping a drop of hat,” she said.
“COVID-19 is in our yard, not on the other side of the fence.”
Similar Superspreader events have been reported around the world since the pandemic began earlier this year.
The first conference in the United States was the Biotechnology Conference in Boston in February, which was attended by about 175 people and a funeral was held in Georgia where more than 100 people caught the virus.
Over the last few weeks, clusters of such infections have been seen on university campuses, deporting students to their homes.
At Oneonta University in northern New York, more than 670 COVID cases were identified in a month.
