Sporting KC Academy stars Gage Akalu and Nati Clarke join the U.S. U-15 BNT
Kansas City Sports Academy striker Gage Akalu and defender Nati Clarke joined the United States' under-15 national team for a training camp until Sunday at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, California.
Thirty-six players, all born in 2005, will participate in the team's first event of the year under the guidance of U-15 head coach and former MLS veteran Gonzalo Segares.
Akalu (top right) and Clarke (top left) starred for the United States last October at the UEFA U-15 Development Tournament in Poland. The duo appeared in all three games of the competition as the United States defeated Iceland 2-1 on October 21 before being hit on penalties against Poland on October 23 and Russia on October 25. Akalu scored two goals against Poland, while Clarke donned the captains' armband against Iceland and Russia
Akalu, from Kansas City, Kansas, joined Sporting KC Academy in 2017. The 14-year-old scored four goals in nine league games for Sporting KC U-15 during the Development Academy's 2019-2020 campaign.
A native of Topeka, Kansas, Clarke has also played nine league games for Sporting KC U-15 this season as a full-fledged bottom line member. The 15-year-old joined the Academy in 2016.
