Minnesota Coronavirus: Set Daily Highs for New Cases

The Minnesota Department of Health announced on Sunday that two more Minnesota people died at COVID-19, bringing the total to 1965.
Of those who were announced dead on Sunday, one was in their 90s and the other was in their 60s. The one who died was a resident of a long-term care facility. Of the 1,965 COVID-19 deaths reported in Minnesota, 1,423 were long-term care residents.
The current death toll includes only laboratory-confirmed Minnesota people who test positive for COVID-19.
MDH also said there were a total of 90,017 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Minnesota on Sunday. The number of confirmed cases has increased by 1,296 from Saturday’s count and is based on 22,553 new tests. You can find a 7-day positive case average here.
The number of new cases reported on Sunday sets the state’s highest daily. On August 27, the second highest day, MDH reported an increase of 1,154 new cases compared to the previous day.
On Saturday, MDH reported an increase of 914 cases and 13 additional deaths from Friday’s count-8 among residents of long-term care facilities. The state said the number of these cases was based on 23,157 new tests.
Since Thursday, Minnesota has reported an average of more than 900 COVID-19 cases per day, with more than 19,000 tests reported each day. Both numbers are higher than normal.
Since the onset of the outbreak, 7,163 Minnesota have been hospitalized, 248 have been hospitalized, 123 of whom are in intensive care.
