The McDowell County Health Department has been informed that nine additional McDowell County residents have tested positive for the new coronavirus (COVID-19).

“The Emergency Operations Center and Public Health are working to protect the community,” said Karen Powell, Director of Public Health. “Preventing the spread of COVID-19 and keeping McDowell County healthy and safe is our sole focus. Health officials are supporting and monitoring outbreaks at the Cedarbrook Residential Center in Nevo. Two staff members tested positive for COVID-19. Currently, no resident has been tested positive. Public Health and Emergency Management works closely with the facility to continue weekly testing of all staff and residents to take further mitigation measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

The situation at Deer Park Health and Rehab is stable and closely monitored by Public Health and the Emergency Operations Center. As of Monday morning, a total of 37 residents and 31 staff have tested positive for COVID-19. Sadly, 14 residents of Deer Park have died from COVID-19. According to a news release, a total of 23 residents have recovered from being positive for COVID-19.
