UK’s leading scientists warn of 50,000 new infections every day without tougher cuts – BBC News
According to leading government scientists, there could be 50,000 new cases a day in the UK without further action to limit the spread of Coronavirus until mid-October. Professors Sir Patrick Vallance and Chris Whitty said the four nations in the UK are at the forefront and stressed the importance of respecting health guidelines at all times. Officials have recommended raising the Covid alert level to 4 – which means a high or exponentially high transmission rate. They considered it a 6-month problem. Prime Minister Boris Johnson will make a statement to the House of Commons to determine new restrictions in England, including an order to close pubs at 10pm. Downing Street says the four nations in the UK have agreed to take a unified approach as far as possible.
