Boris Johnson claims “dangerous turning point” for 6 months with new cuts – BBC News

The UK has reached a “dangerous turning point” according to Boris Johnson in the fight against the coronavirus. The Prime Minister has imposed some new restrictions on England, warning that they could stay for 6 months. He said “significant reductions” will be made if the cases continue to rise significantly. Mr. Johnson addressed the House of Commons and continued to explain his decision on a television address. Abolishing the former policy, he said office workers in England should now be able to work from home if possible. This was always the case in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Bars and restaurants will only have table service and must be closed by 10pm. Customers should wear a face mask unless they are sitting. There will also be stricter penalties in England with a fine of 200 euros if people do not wear a mask or if they meet in groups of more than six people. Despite the proliferation of infections, the prime minister told people who were initially sheltered from the pandemic that they would not need to be re-shielded unless they were in an area with a local closure. Some experts have said that the announced measures will not be enough to get rid of the virus in England. The Scottish government has gone much further. From tomorrow, people will not be allowed to visit other houses. The Prime Minister stressed that the new measures being implemented are intended to protect the economy from further damage. However, the CBI employers ’organization said the measures would be a severe blow to the thousands of businesses of many companies that have a secure future.
