Millions of people download NHS tracking app despite “dental problems”
Over 10 million people downloaded NHS Covid-19 App The government said in the first three days, despite the pile of problems with users sending infection warnings and disappearing without further information.
According to the Ministry of Health, 6 million people downloaded the app on the first day and 1.5 million people checked in at the venue on Saturday.
However, many users complained that they received a warning message from the app.
Sean Eddleston of Liverpool said the display disappears as soon as the notification is clicked.
“It was along the line that I was in close contact with someone who tested positive, but I don’t think there was any mention of getting a test or self-isolation,” he said.
“When I opened the app, I was hoping for more information, but nothing.”
“There is a possibility of exposure to Covid-19. We are checking the exposure information. The app has accessed the date, duration, and signal strength of this exposure.”
Richard Coles, who lives in the northwest, said he received the message at 1:00 am. “It’s either flagging someone past the house, or it’s not working properly,” he wrote on Twitter.
NHS Test and Trace initially stated that an error would occur if the user did not select England and Wales as the “active region”. But Coles and others pointed out that the region is already set up in England and Wales.
Also in Liverpool, Caty McNally wrote on social media: “The exact same thing happened today. I don’t know what I’m doing.”
Classical music writer and critic Tristan Jakovhof said he had been notified but complained that the app had no advice. “Have you ever been exposed? How can I check?”
On Sunday afternoon, the Ministry of Health said the notification was the default message from Apple and Google and could not be turned off.
“Don’t worry if you miss or overlook them,” said an app support help desk advisor. “Important messages from the app are always displayed from within the app.”
The latest issue occurred just 24 hours after some users complained that they couldn’t upload their test results. This issue was fixed on Saturday night. Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden admitted that there was a “dental problem” and argued that the app was not the “core” of the government’s weapons to combat the virus.
However, the government said the app received an overall “warm rating” from downloaders, with an Apple Store rating of 4.5 out of 5.
Secretary of Health Matt Hancock said: “The reaction was great. This is a strong start, but we want more people and companies to be behind the app.
“Many of us who download it, it will be more effective.”
The government says more than 460,000 companies have adopted the app by printing a QR code poster that links when customers scan it.
