Covid-19: Northeastern households mixed “against the law”

Blockade measures in northeastern England will be tightened to stop the rise in the Covid-19 case.
Secretary of Health Matt Hancock said there were stricter restrictions introduced than those imposed a week ago.
He said that mixing between households in any indoor setting that people are currently advised to avoid violates the law from Wednesday and is fine and enforceable.
The infection rate in this area currently exceeds 100 per 100,000 people.
Hancock told the House of Representatives that incidents in the area had “surged.”
Under regulations that came into force on September 18, nearly two million people in Newcastle, Northumberland, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, and Durham have been associated with people outside their families. And private bubble support banned homes and gardens.

Hancock did not say whether the revised rules would still allow grandparents to visit other households for informal childcare, such as caring for their children.
Nick Forbes, leader of the Newcastle City Council, criticized the Secretary of Health for how the announcement was made.
“We have been discussing the possibility of further restrictions with the government, but the Secretary of State has stood up again and announced the change without telling us that it was about to change,” he said.
“We want to work constructively with the government, but the way these measures are headlined has no effect on public confidence without details.
“We demanded that new limits, tests, and support for the most affected businesses be clarified.”
