Crystal Fantasy ”(EXCLUSIVE) – Variety
Adult Swim has taken over the animated comedy series “YOLO: Crystal Fantasy” from creator Michael Cusack, Variety learned exclusively.
The series, which will debut later this year, follows Australian party girls Sarah and Rachel as they search for fun moments, new experiences, positive vibes and hopeful horoscopes in the bizarre city of Wollongong. Sarah’s quest is to find love, while Rachel is hungry for chaos, which often puts them in conflict as they meet surreal Australians, strange bush creatures and quirky nomads.
Cusack’s viral hit on YouTube “Ciggy Butt Brain” caught the attention of “Rick and Morty” Justin Roiland who then asked him to create an Australian version of “Rick and Morty”, which led to the animation project “Bushworld Adventures”. The 11-minute special was aired on Adult Swim on April Fool’s Day in 2018, a year after the first surprise in Season 3 of “Rick and Morty”.
“YOLO: Crystal Fantasy” will be a quarter-hour animated series. Cusack will produce with Mike Cowap. Cusack will also be executive producer with Greta Lee Jackson and Emma Fitzsimons. The series is produced by Princess Pictures.
The fourth season of “Rick and Morty” started airing in late 2019. Five episodes have been aired to date and the remaining five are slated to air later this year. It was announced just under two years ago that Adult Swim had given “Rick and Morty” a massive order for 70 episodes, which will bring the series to 101 episodes.
In addition to unionized programs like “American Dad” and “Bob’s Burgers”, the other current adults from Adult Swim “Final Space”, “Lazor Wulf” and “Robot Chicken”.
