In a study of dogs, a virus from the cowp plant, the source of cowpea, allowed the immune system to identify and fight cancer cells. Injecting inactivated cowpy mosaic virus directly into tumors at high doses in combination with radiation therapy has shown great promise as a cancer treatment.
