A second West Nile virus was found on the West Side in less than a week.
This time is the Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area.
The West Side Mosquito and Vector Control District said Monday’s mosquito samples taken from the lake were tested positive for WNV.
Late last week, a WNV-carrying mosquito was found on Green Street in Maricopa.
District officials are taking steps to treat the area.
“If you’re camping or doing other outdoor activities, be aware of the presence of mosquitoes,” the district said in a news release.
Mosquitoes are most active from dawn to dusk, so the greatest danger is at night.
The district encourages people to take precautions with insect repellents, including DEET. You should also wear a long-sleeved shirt and long trousers.
People also need to use screens to cover doors, windows and tents.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most infected people are unaffected.
About 20% have some kind of symptom.
