Disney develops film Space Mountain by writer Obi-Wan Kenobi
A live-action film adaptation of Disney’s Space Mountain tour is in the works, with Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Joby Harold as screenwriter and producer.
In the hope of replicating the enormous success of hisPirates of the Caribbeanseries, Disney is set to convert another iconic amusement ride from its parks into a film franchise.
Disney recently announced that it is working on a movie based on the Space Mountain tour, as reported THR. Joby Harold was enlisted as a screenwriter and co-producer. The film will also be produced by Safehouse Pictures, the production company run by Harold and his wife, Tory Tunnell, as well as by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich’s Rideback production studio.

Harold has been an executive producer since John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum,2018King Arthur: Legend of the Sword movieand 2016UndergroundTV shows. He also wrote the screenplay for Zack Snyder’s upcoming film, Army of the dead. Currently, Harold is producing and writing for the upcoming and still untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney +.
This production is not the only current Disney project that will make a film adaptation of the rides in its parks. The official announcement of the Space Mountain movie comes six weeks after Disney announced it was working on a remake of the 2003 live-action horror comedy The haunted mansion, which starred Eddie Murphy and was also based on a well-known Disney ride.
The Space Mountain adaptation will initially hit theaters, rather than VOD or Disney +, and will be a family movie. So far, no director has been announced yet.
Space Mountain, one of Disney’s most recognizable attractions, is a sci-fi-themed indoor roller coaster, originally opened in the Tomorrowland area of the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida in 1975 and then featured at Disneyland in California in 1977.
