Dublin April Fool’s humorous chance goes wrong, the district says
DUBLIN – The humorous April chance didn’t spark much laughter on Wednesday, when a recorded message came out to already stressed parents of the Dublin school community saying students would have to take and pass tests this summer to move to the next level.
Dublin School District Superintendent Dave Marken emailed the community later that day, after learning that it was probably a hoax to make sure everyone was not true.
“Although someone may have created it as a joke from April, it’s not funny. We must not and do not appreciate how this difficulty plays out in our neighborhood. Our staff work on a daily basis to address this ongoing crisis, and answering this type of problem does not help, “Marken wrote.
A robocall-like message, alleged to have been from a supervisor, was sent via Facebook’s WhatsApp, where she circled the parent group. The parent split it with the district.
District spokesman Chip Dehnert said Thursday it was unclear where he was coming from.
“There is already a great deal of concern about what’s going on,” he said. “People who didn’t realize it wasn’t legitimate, it probably increased their anxiety.”
Police were not contacted.
Dublin Unified, like other school districts in the Bay Area, is currently closed for coronavirus outbreaks and distance learning.
