A global study evaluated inadvertent changes in health behavior that occurred under widespread pandemic restrictions. Researchers have found that the effects of lockdown have been extended among obese people.
“Overall, obese people improved their diet the most, but they also had the highest incidence of sharp declines in mental health and weight gain,” said Dr. Redman. “One-third of obese people gained weight during the blockade compared to 20.5% of normal or overweight people.”
The online research was conducted in April. Over 12,000 people worldwide have confirmed the survey and 7,754 have completed detailed online surveys. The majority of respondents were in the United States and half were from Louisiana. Residents of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and more than 50 other countries also responded.
The people who participated in the survey responded to the pandemic in much the same way, whether they lived in Louisiana, elsewhere in the United States, or abroad.
