Cambria adds 50 COVID-19 cases and joins the state in setting new records | Coronavirus
Cambria County and Pennsylvania set new records for COVID-19 cases on Friday, a report from the Ministry of Health at noon said.
The county added 50 new cases, the state added 2,219 positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total state to 190,579.
“Currently, the daily increase is comparable to what was seen in April 2020, and the number of cases (on Friday) is the highest in total for the day,” the agency said in a press release.
On Friday, 33 additional deaths were added, including the 16th in Indiana County. At least one person died in Westmoreland County for the 11th consecutive day.
Friday’s report brings the total state deaths from COVID-19 to 8,625.
Locally, Somerset County reported 11 new cases, Bedford County and Blair County each reported 10 cases, Indiana County 34 cases, Clearfield 4 cases, Center 59 cases, and Westmoreland 64 cases. did.
On Friday, 2,219 new cases surpassed 1,989 new cases from April 9th, marking the peak of the spring wave. Cambria County’s previous daily record was 46 on October 17.
More than 1,000 new cases occurred for 18 consecutive days, setting a record for spring. In this report, the 7-day average was 1,642, which is also a record high.
Although the initial surge was mainly concentrated in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties in the east, the current wave of COVID-19 is more comprehensive, at least in terms of infection numbers.
For example, in Cambria County, the first COVID-19 case was identified on March 18. When the state reached its spring peak on April 9, 17 days later, there were only 10 cases in Cambria.
In the last 17 days, Cambria has added 319 cases.
However, the tests are much more extensive than in spring. Last week, 235,737 tests were recorded, including 39,757 on Thursday.
Due to the current surge, most of these tests have returned more positive than in recent months. The state-wide positive rate is currently 5%, a threshold that health officials have stated to call attention.
A county-specific report, updated on the Health Department’s COVID-19 Early Warning Dashboard on Friday, shows Cambria County positive rates of 3.9%, Somerset County positive rates of 4.2%, Bedford County 7.6%, and Blair County. It shows 5.3% of the county and 7% of the county of Indiana.
The state estimates that 79% of COVID-19 patients have recovered, which is about 150,000.
A hospital spokesman said no additional information would be released regarding the deaths of the two COVID-19s at the Konemau Memorial Medical Center.
Jeffrey Leeds of Coroner, Cambria County, said a 68-year-old man in Stonycreek Township, Cambria County, died Wednesday and an 82-year-old man in Martinsburg, Blair County died at Johnstown Hospital on Thursday.
“Patient privacy laws do not allow us to provide specific information related to patients,” said Kyle Adams.
“The Conemaugh Health System continues to take all necessary precautions related to COVID-19 in accordance with the latest CDC guidelines.”
Only one visitor is allowed at a time for inpatients. All visitors must be screened and provide their own mask. Other families cannot meet in the waiting room, so it is advisable to wait at home.
