WHO Boss Says “I’m Proud” of Ireland’s Response to COVID-19

Dr. Mike Ryan, head of the World Health Organization Emergency Program, praised Ireland’s response to COVID-19 and states that he is proud to be Irish.
Dr. Mike Ryan, head of the team responsible for containment of the deadly virus, commended the Irish people and community who had been advised by WHO on fighting COVID-19.

“I was surprised at the seriousness of the virus,” said Ryan Thursday at the RTE. “I really want to praise the Irish people who participated, the Irish community.
“They take care of themselves and take care of each other. I am Irish and see how the Irish community accepted, listened and acted to protect themselves and protect others. I’m proud. “
Dr. Ryan further states: “In Ireland, I think the government has played a very healthy role in communicating and developing effective strategies. Nothing is perfect, and the situation is changing every day.
“If you look at the situation in Europe and other countries, you can say that Ireland is doing well.”

In the first half of the interview, Dr. Ryan from Co Sligo said: “The other countries are just getting started.
“We are concerned about the potential of this disease in vulnerable people, Africa, refugees, and other vulnerable people around the world.”
He added, “We can control this virus. It may not be possible to remove it completely, but it will allow us to control the virus, thereby bringing the economic and social systems back on track.
“To make that happen, we need to implement these comprehensive strategies using the time that lockdowns are provided. I think Ireland is doing a pretty good job now.”
Dr. Ryan said that more than one million cases of coronavirus have been identified worldwide and that deaths have exceeded 50,000.
