Keir Starmer selected new job leader – BBC News

Sir Keir Starmer has been elected as the new leader of the Labor Party.

The 57-year-old couple defeated Rebecca Long-Bailey and Lisa Nandy among party members, trade unionists and registered parties and Jeremy Corbyn will lead the opposition.

The lawyer, who became a parliamentarian in 2015, won the first round of voting, with more than 50% of the vote.

He said his task was to “bring this great party to a new era, with confidence and hope.”

In a video message released by the party, he said he was “honored and privileged” to be elected, and hopes that Labor will “arrive when the time comes to serve our people again – in government.”
