Influenza vaccine derived from genetically modified tobacco plant passes clinical trials — RT World News
In a major advance in vaccine research, plant-grown influenza jabs have passed two large clinical trials. Researchers extracted virus-like particles from tobacco plants to create inoculations.
Boffin used genetically modified Aboriginal tobacco relatives to make viral proteins. Approximately 23,000 people participated in the two trials, demonstrating that plant-derived vaccines are as safe as current influenza vaccines.
Influenza viruses are constantly changing shape, creating new problems for vaccine developers each year. This is a large-scale project, and researchers want to upgrade to current technology.
