Richmond, Virginia-The Health Department offers free flu shots during two drive-up vaccination events in Richmond.
“Get flu vaccinated this year to stay healthy. Influenza weakens your immune system, but it’s not good in the era of COVID-19!” Said a Richmond City Health Department official. “The flu vaccine will be more available this year than ever before. Protect and shoot the vulnerable!”
The drive-up vaccination event will be held on Wednesday, November 18th, from 1pm to 4pm at Martin Luther King Jr. Junior High School (Mosby Street 1000, Richmond) and on Wednesday, December 2nd, from 1pm to 4pm at Hughgnot. It is planned. High school (7945 Forest Hill Avenue in Richmond).
Authorities emphasized the importance of vaccination against influenza during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Influenza and hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations kill about 30,000-40,000 people each year,” said RN. “We need beds and other resources available to treat patients with COVID-19.”
The coronavirus killed more than 246,000 people in the United States this year. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this is more than the sum of influenza in the last five seasons.

Nevertheless, increased hospitalizations due to influenza could put additional strain on hospitals already handling COVID-19.
“The flu vaccine is 40% -60% effective and reduces the symptoms of the flu if you get the flu,” officials said. “Most people do not experience the side effects of vaccines, and when they do, the side effects tend to be mild.”
Influenza vaccine is recommended for people over 6 months.
Authorities said those with insurance should be vaccinated against the flu at clinics, pharmacies, or emergency medical clinics.
