Virus cases surge in Iran, Jordan and Morocco: WHO

Iran, Jordan and Morocco have recently recorded thousands of new COVID-19 infections, the World Health Organization said Thursday, warning that the blockade could not eradicate the pandemic.
“More than 60% of the total Case Reported last week by three countries: Iran, Jordan and Morocco, “WHO Regional Director Ahmed Al-Mandhari said at a virtual press conference.
“Several other countries, such as Lebanon and Pakistan, continue to see increased cases. The countries with the highest death toll include Jordan, Tunisia and Lebanon.”
To date, the region covering 22 countries from Morocco to Pakistan has registered approximately 3.6 million cases out of 55 million cases worldwide.
However, Mandari warned that the number of official cases in the region could be far below reality.
“We believe that the actual number of cases confirmed across the region is even higher, and recent trends remain of great concern,” he said.
He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to management Pandemic, Strict adherence to targeted blockades and personal precautions.
“The increase we are seeing now is clearly the result of blockades and relaxation of restrictions, and we have succeeded in controlling the pandemic in our region in July and August,” he said.
“But the blockade can only limit transmission to some extent.”
In Iran, where more than 43,000 of the more than 815,000 reported cases have died since the outbreak of the pandemic, official statistics show that the number of confirmed infections per day is only about 13,000.
Tehran has announced 400-500 deaths a day over the course of several weeks.
Morocco on Wednesday passed a tough milestone of a total of 5,000 deaths from COVID-19 disease, with more than 306,000 cases since March, and about 5,000 new cases announced daily.
Jordan, on the other hand, has recorded about 8,000 cases per day, more than 163,000 since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Tunisia, which has experienced more than 83,000 COVID-19 cases, currently has about 1,400 new infections and about 100 deaths per day, with a record number of coronavirus deaths in November. There is a possibility.
