Coronavirus outbreaks in Welsh care homes killed 15 residents and infected 56
An outbreak of the coronavirus in a Welsh care home killed 15 residents and 56 were virus-positive.
Fifteen residents died for three weeks after the outbreak at the Llangollen Fechancare Home in Llangollen, northern Wales.
A total of 56 residents and 33 staff were also virus positive. North Wales Live report.
An “incident management team” consisting of the Denbighshire Council, the Welsh Public Health Service, and the Betsy Kadwarador University Health Commission was established to try to control the outbreak.
Nicola Stabins, co-chair of the team, said:
“In the last three weeks, there have been 56 positive cases and 15 deaths from coronavirus sadly among the population.
“In addition, 33 staff members were tested positive for the virus during the same period.”
“We want to ensure that all stakeholders are in control in cooperation with the care home, including restricting the movement of staff and residents to reduce infections,” she added.
“Our thoughts and condolences are all influenced and we continue to promise to work together to deal with the situation.
“Anyone who meets the contact definition will be contacted as a routine part of the testing, tracing, and protection process and will provide additional advice to themselves, their families, and other contacts.”
