Nepal will announce a revised rise on Tuesday

After working for a year on processing data related to measuring the world’s tallest summit, Nepal will on Tuesday announce the newly measured height of Mount Everest.

With an invitation to all media outlets and representatives, the Survey Department informed, on Sunday, the planned event to announce the new height.

“We will be hosting a program to announce the new height on Tuesday afternoon in our office. People who actively participated in the action are also to be congratulated on the occasion,” said Sushil Narsingh Rajbandari, Deputy General Manager, Himalayan Survey Department, the nation confirmed to ANI.

Nepal set out to measure the height of the world’s highest peak after widely accepted speculation that 8,848 meters may not be the actual length after the 2015 earthquake that shook the nation.

While deploying Nepalese officials and experts to re-measure the height of the mountain, the government of Nepal has also coordinated with China in its domestic efforts. During Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Nepal in 2019, the two countries signed an agreement to jointly announce the height of the world’s tallest summit.

Measured in 1954 by the India Survey, 8,848 meters is the widely accepted and recognized height of Sagarmatha, the Nepalese name for the world’s highest known peak.
