Retired Dodger broadcaster Finn Scully congratulates Michaels on winning the Ford C Frick Award

The Los Angeles Dodgers organization has been lucky enough to have some great broadcasters over the years, and the best of them, of course, is Vin Scully.

Scully spent 66 years calling the Dodgers games, dating back to their days in Brooklyn in 1950. His illustrious career came to an end when Scully retired at the end of the 2016 season.

Now that Scully is enjoying retirement, he has created social media accounts as a way to stay in touch and the ability to tell stories to fans. There is no one better at telling stories.

One of the most recent tweets was actually a tribute to another broadcaster as he congratulated the great Al Michael on receiving the 45th Ford C Frick Award, which is presented annually by the National Baseball Hall of Fame:

Scully has been a recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award since 1982, and Dodgers’ announcer was not the only recipient of the Red Barber Award (1978), as were Jaime Jarrin (1998) and Al Helfer (2019).

Michaels is one of the most decorated broadcasters in sporting history, with his career dating back to 1964. He is mostly known for calling the soccer games and “Miracle on Ice” at the 1980 Winter Olympics, but has also called several baseball games after Season ABC in the 1970s and 1980s.

Perhaps baseball’s most memorable moment came in 1989 when the third game of the World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics was interrupted by an earthquake in Candlestick Park.

Legend honored Scully on his 93rd birthday

On November 29, Scully celebrated his 93rd birthday, and a number of sports and entertainment icons created a video to honor him. Michaels was among the participants, demonstrating the mutual respect the two icons shared.
