Baptist Hospital provides doctors with COVID-19 vaccine
More southeastern Texas doctors and nurses are rolling up their sleeves to get the coronavirus vaccine.
Beaumont, Texas — Southeast Texas has more doctors and nurses lined up to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
All three local hospital systems have begun the vaccination process.
CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth has vaccinated more than 100 staff. Medical centers in southeast Texas also provide vaccines to employees, but do not report daily data.
Baptist Hospital conducted a test run of the vaccine clinic on Friday morning. This seemed like a hopeful shot for the five doctors who directly treat patients infected with the coronavirus.
Baptist Hospital’s plan is to have a full vaccine clinic up and running by Monday. Hospital staff will then be vaccinated with Pfizer vaccine from Monday to Wednesday for the next two weeks.
At a time when many wanted a Christmas miracle, doctors at Baptist Hospital said the vaccine clinic was like a medical miracle.
“This is hope. This is exactly what we want here,” said physician Nicole Hancock. “I’m thrilled because I think this is what America needs.”
The clinic started around 8:30 am on Friday morning. Each doctor had to fill out a registration form before being shot in the arm.
“I didn’t feel anything,” said Dr. Ray Crow. “It was exciting for me.”
After being vaccinated, each waited 15 minutes for observation.
“It was refreshing to get the first dose of the vaccine,” said Dr. Ottoman.
Dr. Crow fought COVID-19 earlier this year. He said that if someone is on the fence about vaccination, it shouldn’t.
“Everyone in America needs to be vaccinated,” he said.
Side effects of the vaccine include malaise and pain at the injection site.
