Gordon Building, Napa is the winner of the Best Real Estate Project award

The Gordon Building of the 1930s Spanish Colonial in Napa, located at 1130 First Street in Napa, was a victim of the earthquake that struck southern Napa six years ago. This iconic two-story 20,000-square-foot building in the city center received extensive restoration over a year to bring it back to its original form.

This building, known for its intricate Italian clay exterior coupled with unique architectural design and meticulous detailing, was severely damaged necessitating seismic adjustments and repairs. The restoration was completed on January 30, 2020. The cost of this project was estimated at 16 million dollars.

The historical value of this building requires special care to give it a new life. An internal support system was installed to support the building, while unreinforced masonry walls were removed and repaired.

New steel frame and foundation installed. Thirty-five percent of the building’s original finishes are from the original 1929 era, on directives from the Napa County Historical Society. This included 400 linear feet of 1-by-1 stucco crown molding, and also included recreating the original wall and mezzanine finishes.

The scope of this project also included repairing plaster on an existing stone wall; A complete structural upgrade for wood wall and floor systems; Removal, refurbishment and reinstallation of old windows; In addition to gypsum repairs, new toilets and a new elevator in the building.
