Walker County reports 115 new COVID-19 cases as the state sets a new record for hospitalization.Coronavirus
On Tuesday, Walker County emergency authorities reported 115 new cases of coronavirus, but hospitalization was due to concerns about a post-Christmas surge that doctors could follow or exceed the same post-Thanksgiving pattern. It continued to increase.
115 new viral cases result in a total of 5,369 confirmed cases and 540 possible cases in the county since the onset of the pandemic. However, the proportion of confirmed cases continues to increase, with an average of 31.5 new cases per day in December.
The news came when Texas set a new record for COVID-19 hospitalization and new cases, breaking the previous highs set in July.
At least 11,775 people were hospitalized for coronavirus-induced illness — more than 882 patients, exceeding the previous daily hospitalization record of 10,893 set on July 22 during the summer surge.
The current mark is an increase of about 2,900 patients since the end of November.
State health officials also noted Tuesday’s newly reported 241 deaths and newly confirmed 26,990 cases. The new case is almost double the Texas 7-day moving average. Over the past two weeks, the number has gone from 13,914 new cases per day on December 13th to 12,418.43 new cases per day on December 27th. This is the latest data.
To date, Texas has approached 27,000 virus-related deaths, according to the Texas Department of Health. Its death toll is the second highest in the country.
