A man died after a giant tree fell on a floating house – as a friend relates of the desperate struggle to save him from the high tide.

Fire, Ambulance and Coast Guard services rushed to the scene of the accident in Sailor Creek, near Flushing in Cornwall, yesterday at 5:30 p.m. after reports of people trapped under a fallen tree.

A man in his fifties received medical treatment at the scene but tragically passed away later.

Now the owner of the boat and his friend who witnessed the horror have named the deceased Paul Welch – although he has never been officially recognized.

The owner of the houseboat, Lee Moody, revealed the frantic struggle to save Mr. Welch from high tide moments after an acorn collapsed over it.

Speaking to Falmouth Bucket, Moody said the tree appeared to be a “massive earthquake” when it crashed on the boat.

He said, “The tree fell completely, shattering our boat, and pulling out the mast.

“It was like a massive earthquake, then a massive collapse.”

Moody, his girlfriend and Mr. Welch are all believed to have been aboard the boat in Sailor Creek at the time.

The bereaved friend told how his partner desperately tried to save Mr. Welch’s life lying in the wreckage by raising his head above the rising tide.

Moody told the newspaper, “I couldn’t go down to help, so my girlfriend fell and was trying to save him as the tide started trying to raise his head out of the water.

“It was coming around, it was completely crushed.”

Despite the efforts of friends, Mr. Welch tragically passed away later at the scene.

It is also believed that Mr. Welsh’s young daughter witnessed the horrific accident.

Modi told the newspaper that neither he nor his girlfriend was hurt.

While officers have yet to confirm the man’s identity, Devon and Cornwall police said they treat the death as a “tragic accident.”

The Coast Guard has also confirmed that the accident involved a person in a boat – and initial police reports indicate a tree fell on the boat, according to Cornwall Life reports.

The police confirmed that the victim’s closest relatives have been informed, and a file for the forensic doctor will be prepared.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police were called after news of a tree falling and a man injured on the beach.

The Coast Guard and RNLI lifeboat also attended the scene and the man was brought ashore where paramedics saw him.

“The death of the man in his fifties was confirmed at the scene, and his relatives were notified,” he added.

“At this time, the death was not treated as suspicious but as an accidental death.

“We are conducting investigations today, and in due course, a file for the forensic doctor will be prepared.

“We ask everyone who witnessed the accident to contact the police on 101,” he added.

A Coast Guard spokesperson told CornwallLive: “At 5:30 pm today (Jan 2nd), HM Coastguard received a report of an accident involving one person aboard a ship at Sailors Creek, Flushing, Falmouth.

“A Falmouth Team was sent to rescue and assist the Coast Guard and Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat in a multi-agency response, as the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service took the person off the ship and recovered.”

After that, the victim was transferred to the care of the ambulance service in the southwest of the place to receive immediate medical attention.
