Ontario health officials report 3,422 new cases of COVID-19 and 69 deaths
More than 3,400 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Ontario today, killing 69 people, including 36 residents of long-term care facilities in the state.
State health officials are reporting 3,422 new infections today, up from the 3,056 record recorded on Saturday and down from the 3,945 record confirmed a week ago.
The seven-day average for new state cases went from 3,548 to 3,143 last Sunday.
Over 60,000 tests have been processed in the last 24 hours, and the state-wide positive rate is currently only 5.2%. Latest data released by the Ministry of Health.. This is down from 6.2% at this point last week.
The number of active cases has also decreased weekly from 30,079 on January 10th to 28,893 today.
An additional 69 deaths have been confirmed in the last 24 hours, including 36 residents of Ontario’s long-term care facility, bringing the total number of virus-related deaths in the state to 5,409. Currently, there are 252 outbreaks in long-term care facilities in the state.
The state will continue to roll out the first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination program to inoculate healthcare professionals and long-term sanatorium residents.
“As of 8 pm yesterday, 200,097 COVID-19 vaccines were given,” Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted on Sunday.
Last week, the COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force in Ontario said it plans to vaccinate all residents of the care facility by February 14.
Virus-related hospitalizations will decrease
According to the state, 1,570 people infected with the new coronavirus are currently hospitalized, down from a record 1,701 on Tuesday, but up from 1,484 last Sunday. Intensive care unit (ICU) hospitalizations decreased slightly from 397 on Saturday to 395 on Sunday, the state said.
