A 4.3-magnitude shallow earthquake was reported early in the morning near Fethiye, Mugla, Turkey, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the earthquake struck Tuesday 19 January 2021 at 3:41 a.m. local time at a very shallow depth of 0 km . Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deep earthquakes because they are closer to the surface. The exact size, focus and depth of an earthquake may be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and improve their calculations, or when other agencies release their report. A second report was later released by Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake. Istanbul Research Institute (KOERI-RETMC), which listed it as a 4.1-magnitude earthquake.
