Michigan Authorities Extend Coronavirus (COVID-19) Test to People With Mild Symptoms
Lansing, Michigan. – People with mild coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms can now be tested.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has expanded coronavirus testing standards to include those with mild symptoms. Put it in Click here for COVID-19 Test Site Finder.
“To find out more about how COVID-19 is spreading in our state, we need extensive testing,” said Dr Johnny Cardan, Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Director of Health. “If I have symptoms, I want to make sure people know that they need to work with their health care provider to get tested.”
Michigan testing priorities include:
- hospitalized patient
- Symptomatic healthcare workers
- Patients in symptomatic collective facilities: Patients in nursing homes or elderly living facilities
- Prison or prison
- Homeless shelter
- Residential foster care facility
- Other group living environment
- Patients over 65 years old with symptoms
- Patients with underlying illness
- First responder with symptoms
- Symptomatic critical infrastructure worker
- People with mild symptoms

Spread from person to person
The virus is believed to spread primarily from person to person.
- Between people who are in close contact with each other (within approximately 6 feet).
- Through respiratory droplets that occur when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
These droplets can land on the mouth or nose of people who are near or possibly inhaled into the lungs.
Can someone spread the virus without getting sick?
- It can spread before a person exhibits symptoms. People who don’t show symptoms may still carry the virus and can still pass it on to other people.
Spread from contact with contaminated surfaces or objects
It is possible to get COVID-19 by touching the surface or object on which the virus is attached and by touching your mouth, nose, or perhaps your eyes, which is believed to be the main method of the virus. Not spread.
How easy a virus spreads
