Trump: US will stop funding for WHO – BBC News

US President Donald Trump has said he would suspend funding from the World Health Organization (WHO) because it “failed in its basic function,” with a response to coronaviruses.

He accused the UN agency of mismanaging and spreading the virus after it was set up in China, saying it must be held responsible.

In response, the UN chief said it was “not the time” to cut the funds to WHO.

Trump has dealt with the pandemic on his own.

He said he had been slow to stop the spread of the virus by the end of January, making the decision to travel to China.

He accused the WHO of “criticizing” this decision and accusing China more generally.
