Google Image Search is an acceptable accuracy tool for ophthalmologists seeking rapid exposure to retinal disease, but it has significant limitations as a major source of learning, according to the speaker.

At the Virtual Wills Eye Conference, Dr. Lucy Cobbs presented a study conducted by her and her colleagues to assess the accuracy and quality of Google image search results for retinal disease.

A Google search for 15 common and 15 rare retinal disorders found that most of the images were fundus photographs, 83% of the results for common retinal disorders and 81 for rare retinal disorders. Occupied%. Less than 20% of the images were annotated to identify pathological features.

The accuracy of the photos was evaluated based on the opinions of the two experts and the context of the source website.

Of the 300 images, 4% were incorrect (12 images, 6 common illnesses and 6 rare illnesses).
