A 5-year-old boy who overcame Covid-19 during treatment for a rare cancer spent his first day at school with his twin brothers.
Archie Wilkes of Saffron Walden in Essex had just started preschool when he got sick two and a half years ago.
While being treated for neuroblastoma last March, he Coronavirus.. His parents, Simon and Harriet, have now told their twins Henry that it is enough to attend the reception class.
Wilkes said: “I’ve been waiting for a long time, so it was very overwhelming to see them go to school together.
“We were very impressed to see Archie in uniform and see them playing in uniform all night together.

“After experiencing this with Archie, we definitely really value the simplicity.”
He couldn’t stand up when Archie was first diagnosed with neuroblastoma, but he said he is now “blowing and running around” on his bike.
“He’s not near his companions or his brothers, but he’s much better,” he said.
He said Archie “really built up his strength” and “enjoys being able to play with his friends.”
The family wants Archie to raise £ 230,000 to participate in a vaccine trial in the United States. This can reduce the chance that the cancer will come back after he has remitted.
Over £ 215,000 was donated to his JustGiving page, and his father said they were “very close” to their total goal.
Archie will have surgery to remove the tumor around the kidneys within a few weeks, followed by a month of radiation therapy and then six months of immunotherapy, Wilkes said.
He had just started preschool when he got sick two and a half years ago, and he tested positive for the coronavirus while he was being treated for neuroblastoma last March.
“We aim to start trial treatment immediately after immunotherapy,” he said.
The rare cancer neuroblastoma, which affects about 100 children each year in the UK and is most common in children under the age of 5, is a specialized nerve cell (neuroblastoma) left out of the baby’s development in the womb. It originates from (cell tumor).
Two tumors were found around Archie’s kidneys and spine, and the disease had spread to other areas, including his bones and bone marrow.
Wilkes said 50 percent of children who have been successfully treated for neuroblastoma will relapse.
Of those who have relapsed, 90 percent do not survive.
Wilkes tells us all that the vaccine trial at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York “has done everything possible to reduce that chance and give Archie the best chance of life. I am aiming for that. “
