Modeling shows reduced transmission of COIV-19
On Friday, the OHA released a statewide modeling update, showing that statewide mitigation efforts are working to flatten the curve.
This week’s report models three scenarios from May 4th to June 4th and envisions interventions with varying levels of effectiveness in reducing infections. By comparison, the epidemic is clearly very sensitive to policy changes and public adherence to community mitigation strategies.
Scenario modeling underscores the need to keep very careful monitoring of results over the long term. It shows that gradual changes are needed to mitigate community mitigation strategies without significantly increasing infections. It also requires changes with other interventions to keep the infection level low. Other interventions include improved testing capabilities, detailed contact tracking, and quarantine of infected individuals.

Oregon begins tracking estimated cases
Starting today, the OHA will begin tracking daily putative COVID-19 cases, consistent with recently revised guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The presumed case is a person who is not PCR positive and is a test to confirm whether it is COVID-19, but there is symptom and it is in close contact with the confirmed case. If they later test positive by PCR, they will be reclassified as confirmed cases.
The first results of that revised tracking will be reported in the daily report starting Monday.
The number of new estimated cases is reported along with the number of confirmed cases. Clinical and demographic characteristics of confirmed and estimated cases are included together in the daily report. We report the total number of confirmed and estimated deaths.
If there are no positive PCR test results, the case remains an estimated case. Estimated cases, like confirmed cases, will be investigated by local public health authorities. Probable cases are required to follow the same self-isolation protocol as confirmed cases.
In rare cases, putative cases are later diagnosed with another illness, which better explains the illness. In such cases, the putative COVID-19 cases will be reclassified and no longer reported as COVID-19 cases.
