Coronavirus Australia: Minister of Science believes in vaccine at least 10 months ahead
The coronavirus vaccine is at least 10 months ahead, but debates about whether it’s essential will start soon, said Federal Science Minister Karen Andrews.
“It’s possible that you will be vaccinated within the next 10-15 months,” she said on Monday.
“So it’s completely possible by the end of this year or the beginning of next year, we will have a vaccine for COVID-19.”
Andrews says CSIRO is supporting a global effort to develop a vaccine by testing separate vaccines from the UK and the US.
She reiterated the Australian government’s view that a vaccine is needed to completely eliminate the virus.
“Life won’t return to normal until we get the vaccine,” she said.

“We have seen deregulation, but there is a long way to go.”
Andrews said the COVID-19 vaccine is not yet mandatory for Australians.
“We will encourage people to be vaccinated when vaccines become available,” she said.
