Kerry reveals major factory upgrade in Rome | Business
The Kerry group has announced plans to invest $ 125 million to more than double the capacity of its Rome plant at 5 Douglas Street in Lindale.
The company has taken over the former seasoning and custom coatings division from Southeastern Mills as part of an agreement first announced in December 2018.
It is Kerry's largest capital investment ever in its North American division and will add more than 100 new jobs to the Rome plant.
In a press release from Governor Brian Kemp's office, Gerry Behan, CEO of Kerry Taste & Nutrition North America, said that North America is Kerry's largest market.
"As such, it is fitting that this is where we are announcing our greatest investment in investment spending," said Behan.
This upgrade will facilitate the expansion of the company's product line in the poultry and seafood markets, thereby doubling its production capacity.
Construction is expected to begin immediately and is expected to be completed in early 2021. The massive upgrade is expected to be completed within the existing footprint of the facility on Douglas Street.
A commitment to sustainability means that the new facility, when completed, will be supplied with 100% renewable electricity as well as initiatives that include zero waste to the landfill, bulk reception and energy efficient equipment.
Southeastern Mills moved its seasoning and custom coatings division from East First Street, in downtown Rome, to Lindale in 1999. It included a state-of-the-art innovation center, a complex of world-class research and development cuisine.

Jimmy Byars, chairman of the Rome-Floyd County Development Authority, stressed in the governor's office statement that the existing industry remains an important driver in creating capital investment and jobs for Rome and the county of Floyd.
Adding more than 100 new jobs would result in full-time factory employment beyond the 230 mark.
The Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Pat Wilson, said that much of economic development is based on relationships.
