Biden-Harris administration awards $20 million to make national supply chains more resilient

GAITHERSBURG, Md. The Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), a program of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), has awarded approximately $400,000 to each of its National MEP Network Centers in every state and in Puerto Rico. The total funding of over $20 million will be used to develop programs to make national supply chains more resilient and efficient.
The CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 authorized a pilot rewards program that would enable MEP Centers to provide services focused on national supply chain resilience, workforce development and adoption of upgrades. at advanced technological levels among small and medium-sized manufacturers.
The new awards will support the creation of a database called the National Supply Chain Optimization and Intelligence Network (SCOIN). It will focus on providing supplier sourcing services, establishing new service offerings to enhance existing supply chain networks, filling supply chain gaps by connecting equipment manufacturers to origin to small and medium manufacturers and create a comprehensive map of US supplier capabilities and capabilities. .
