Amazon says worker in central South Macon has COVID-19

MACON, Georgia. Amazon confirmed by email Sunday that at least one South Macon distribution center employee tested positive for COVID-19.

Amazon released this statement to 13WMAZ:

“We support the recovering individual. We follow the directions of health officials and medical experts and take extreme measures to keep employees safe on our site. You can read more about everything you have done to protect employees and partners here. “

The company claims to have informed the processing center employees of this confirmed case, but did not provide further details on the person or part of the center where it worked.

Amazon says they will ask employees who were in close contact with the worker not to return to the building and quarantine for at least 14 days. They will be paid during this period.

Amazon also says it has implemented preventative measures to keep workers safe at all of their facilities, including:

Increase the amount and intensity of cleaning in all facilities, including disinfecting door handles, stair railings, elevator buttons, lockers, touch screens and more,
Practice social distancing in buildings, including no standing meetings, spread tables and chairs in break rooms, staggered work and break schedules, application training and more,
Require employees to stay home and seek medical attention if they feel unwell,
Ask employees to stop nonessential travel,
Interview of candidates via video,
And ask employees to wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
