Central New York braves long lines again for Pizze Fritte, the taste of NYS Fair
DeWitt, N.Y. For most people lining up to buy Pizze Fritte from DeWitt, a 2-foot-long piece of fried dough is not enough.
Customers have ordered up to 10 bags of dough at a time, said Grazi Zazzara Jr., a family member who owns Villa Pizze Fritte. Most people don’t just buy a bag for themselves, he said: They order bags to help satisfy the desires of their neighbors, family and friends.
Saturday marked the second day, Villa Pizze Fritte temporarily installed its triangular store in the parking lot at the corner of Boulevard Erie East and Bridge Street in DeWitt.
The temporary appearance of the stands gives central New York a taste of the New York State Fair during the coronavirus pandemic, where everyone could use something sweet.
The pilots start lining up late Saturday morning for the bleachers at 2 p.m. opening. While the line of cars waiting to order bags of dough remained long, Zazzara said traffic was going more smoothly than Friday. Villa Pizze Fritte has hired assistants to guide traffic, he said, and restricts the way drivers enter the parking lot.
How much dough did the stand sell on the first day?
We sold everything, said Zazzara laughing.
Based on the long line of three-depth cars, he doesn’t expect Saturday sales to be different.
Villa Pizze Fritte will be open again tomorrow and will return to the DeWitt site next weekend. Part of the proceeds from each day will be donated to a local charity.
