Spectrum Health Launches Hotline To Help Identify Coronavirus Symptoms

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. Spectrum Health now offers a free hotline to anyone who thinks they are infected with the coronavirus. Callers to the hotline will then be scheduled for a virtual video tour and assisted to download the Spectrum Health Now app, where the video tour will take place.

The hotline was launched on Friday evening and is free for everyone.

"We want to make sure that we don't promote the spread of the disease and we want to make sure that people enter our facilities and all facilities in the city," said Dr. Darryl Elmouchi, chief medical officer of Spectrum Health and President of Spectrum Health Medical Group. "And so by virtually doing this on their own, for free, we can track people to see if they need more advanced care."

The hotline always provides a way for people to contact a doctor without compromising other patients while waiting in an emergency care center or an emergency room.

"It really (supposedly) is a community benefit to help people and prevent further harm," said Dr. Darryl Elmouchi. "We prefer to be ahead of the game and make sure our community is protected."

The consultation will only take a few minutes and will be free. Nothing will be billed to your private insurance company.

"Honestly, if there is a financial barrier for people who are even tested, many will not," said Dr. Elmouchi.

If the doctors during the screening think you may have contracted the new coronavirus, then you will be directed to more advanced care options.
