Paul Bettany on his Emmy nomination and career “WandaVision” – From the actor’s side – Deadline
The Emmys have been very good to Paul Bettany so far this year. Not only is he nominated for Best Leading Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie for WandaVision, the Marvel limited series on Disney + won 23 nominations. Meanwhile, his film Uncle Franck was chosen by Amazon at Sundance and was nominated for Outstanding Television Movie. He looks great in both lead roles and voters are clearly noticing that.
Bettany’s public profile has skyrocketed since taking on the MCU in Iron Man like Jarvis, and turning into Vision in Captain America and the Avengers movies, but after a few death scenes he didn’t expect there to be much more. Then comes WandaVision and a new chapter begins. He joins me for today’s edition of my Deadline The Actor’s Side video series, where we talk about all this activity and he tells me how scary it was to recreate scenes from some of the most major television sitcoms (a key feature of WandaVision) starting with the iconic Dick Van Dyke show, where Bettany had to step into Van Dyke’s Rob Petrie’s shoes and make us believe he was just as awesome. It’s not an easy task – and they also had to film these scenes in front of a live audience. It’s all part of the ingenuity of this Marvel series, and it certainly gave Bettany a chance to show off her acting skills.
Bettany also talks about another dream role in an iconic franchise while part of the Star Wars saga in Solo. Of course, this star has plenty of other notable screen appearances, including A beautiful spirit and The “Da Vinci Code for his Solo director Ron Howard, and one of his personal favorites, Master and Commander. As for the latter, I’m asking about word that there is a prequel in the works featuring the young me of his character Stephen Maturin. Could he be involved?
