"American Idol" reveals "Fourth Judge" in Sunday's show – Variety
American Idol judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan shared some good news in the opening segment of the ABC broadcast on Sunday night: the arrival of a "fourth judge."
"I think it's the perfect addition to this panel," said Bryan, adding that the news "should come from Katy".
"We're going to have a baby," said Perry, as she proudly showed off her bump for the cameras.
Richie and Bryan beamed like proud uncles, with Richie exclaiming. "This is so exciting!" Bryan teased Perry about the size of his closet.
Perry asked if the two were going to throw him a baby shower, and Richie was quick to say that he would cover all of the purchases while Bryan offered fishing tackle, an idea quickly dismissed by Perry.
"You'll have the outdoors and the Gucci shoes," Bryan promised.
"Everything is going to be bigger and better in the third season of American Idol," Perry promised.
Earlier in the week, Perry revealed to fans that she was waiting for the release of a new song, "Never Wore White". In the song's clip and via an Instagram story, Perry said she and actor Orlando Bloom, who she's been dating for three years, were expected this summer.
"Let's call it a revelation," she said, "probably the longest secret I've ever had to keep." Perry added that a new album is also expected in the coming months. "I'm excited, we're excited and we're happy."
Perry, 35, is in her second trimester and may have left a hint about the baby's gender over the weekend during an appearance in Melbourne, Australia. "I hope it is a girl," she said from the scene.
