Jersey Trailer: Shahid Kapoor fans call this moving and angry film about a failed cricketer “Kabir Singh 2.0” | Bollywood
Shahid Kapoor has shared the trailer for his upcoming Jersey movie. The cricket-themed film is a remake of a Telugu film of the same name and is slated for release in December.
In the film, Shahid Kapoor plays the role of a former cricketer who wants to return to the game to inspire his son while Mrunal Thakur plays his wife. Director Gowtam Tinnanuri, who directed the original, also directed the Hindi version.
The trailer opens with a former jobless cricketer trying to make his son’s dream of buying a jersey come true. He tries to get his wife to lend money, but she refuses. He then goes door to door, trying to find money, but ends up trying to steal money from his wife’s wallet.
Between all this, he was offered the post of assistant coach of a cricket team but he seemed hesitant. The trailer then gives a glimpse into his life as a cricketer and the things that led to his release from the game.
This is Shahid’s second cricket film. He had previously starred in the 2009 film Dil Bole Hadippa! The film also starred Rani Mukerji.

The original jersey featured Nani in the lead. The film also won a national award. Speaking to Pinkvilla earlier this year, Nani praised Shahid and believed he would deliver a memorable performance.
“I think he will do it better. He’s a brilliant performer and can really step into the character’s skin, he said. Nani added that he has seen pictures of the Hindi version of Jersey and that they seemed promising.
Gowtam (Tinnanuri) showed me some footage – the director of the original, and it looks very promising. Gowtam is someone who is a man of very few words, even though he likes something – I know that but not everyone can say it – I can see it in his face when he likes something. He doesn’t say much, but when Gowtam told me how happy he was with the Hindi version released, I can already imagine how brilliant it would have been, he added.
Jersey is set to be released on December 31, a week after Ranveer Singh is set to release his cricket film ’83.
