270 public health experts urge Spotify to tackle Joe Rogans misinformation
Many public health experts believe Spotify’s aura flashes an irresponsible red siren. 270 American doctors, scientists, healthcare workers and professors wrote an open letter to Spotify, criticizing the streaming service for allowing its biggest star, Joe Rogan, to spread misinformation about Covid on its ultra-popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience.
The letter refers to a specific episode with virologist Dr Robert Malone, who falsely told Rogans 11 million listeners that hospitals are financially incentivized to attribute deaths to Covid and leaders have hypnotized the public into believing vaccines work.
Calling Malone’s interview a sociological problem of devastating proportions, health experts have urged Spotify to develop a policy to curb the spread of misinformation, as there does not currently appear to be any. YouTube, by comparison, pulled a video of Episode Malone from its platform shortly after it was posted for violating its rules.
Big Picture: Spotify has locked itself into the exclusive rights of the Joe Rogan Experience in 2020 with a rumored $100 million deal, and the headaches have been as big as the price.
