Hollywood Dream: Ride evacuated due to ‘sensor anomaly’, no injuries reported at Universal Studios Japan

A number of local media, including Mainichi Shimbun and NHK report that thirty guests aboard Universal Studios Japan’s Hollywood Dream: The Ride roller coaster have been evacuated from the top of the 141-foot-tall hill for the second time in four months.

The incident happened around 1:10 p.m. local time as the Backdrop version of the attraction was preparing to go down the lift hill. Universal Studios Japan said the attraction’s sensors “detected an anomaly,” and the cause of the malfunction is being investigated.

Park crew members were able to distribute hard hats to the thirty guests and escort them safely down the emergency steps up the elevator hill. The attraction remained closed for the remainder of the operating day. This is the second time the incident has occurred in four months, with a power outage in October due to a faulty switchover by the local Kansai Electric Power Co. causing many of the park’s attractions, including Hollywood Dream, to fail. : The Ride.
