It’s been a month since the infamous Oscars slap in the face, and various celebrities continue to take sides in the situation. Many mainly sided with Chris Rock, with Will Smith’s acting considered childish and over the top. However, actor Terry Crews remains neutral, especially since he is friends with Rock and Smith.
Crews recently opened The Hollywood Reporter to talk about the case, to which he said Rock was “saving Hollywood” with his ability to keep his cool while live-streaming after Smith. “When I look back, by what Chris did, just deciding to hold it all together, actually, I think in a lot of ways I saved Hollywood,” Crews explained. “Because if there had been a fight on that stage, I don’t know if Hollywood would have gotten the respect again, you know? It’s hard to even imagine what would have happened.”
The actor spoke to the media to promote his upcoming book, Tough: My Journey to True Power. His memoir is highly anticipated and will be Crews’ third book. His other two books currently available for purchase are Terry’s Crew and Manhood: how to be a better man or just live with one. He and his wife have also written an audiobook titled Stronger Together: How Fame, Failure, and Faith Changed Our Lives.

Actor admits he acted worse than Smith
Although he applauded Rock’s behavior after the slap, Crews admitted it would have been more than just a slap if it was him at the time. “Will Smith and Chris Rock are both very dear friends of mine,” he said. “I love them both like brothers, but there was a time in my life [where] I was Will Smith then, and let me tell you, I’ve done worse than Will.”
Crews was known to have had a difficult childhood, as he and his siblings grew up in a turbulent family. Her father was an alcoholic and repeatedly abused her mother. He has since moved on from his past and is known as a passionate family man with his wife and five children.

Because he is friends with the two actors, the Brooklyn nine-nine star made sure to watch it through Rock and Smith’s eyes. However, he still couldn’t help but say how proud he was of Rock. “I think it was a miracle what Chris did. I really mean it. I couldn’t believe his composure at that point. I thought, holy cow, we owe him a lot.” Crews also talked about how he could relate to Smith at that time and how it wouldn’t be fair to demonize him.
Besides his new book, Crews is busy in front of the camera and preparing to star in the upcoming TV series. Tales of the Living Dead. He also couldn’t contain his joy over her instagram about the new season America’s Got Talent, where he will return as a host. The season will start on May 31.
