Amid the success of Southern films, Yami Gautam thinks it’s time for Bollywood to ‘improvise’
Actor Yami Gautam believes that films from the South turn out to be pan-Indian hits as filmmakers can share their vision without any obstacles. The ‘Dasvi’ actor said directors in the Hindi film industry always struggle to have a free hand bringing their point of view to the screen. “Now is the time to improvise and work out what we need to do,” Yami said during a session at the ongoing Goa Fest 2022 on Thursday.
The 33-year-old actor says producers are still interested in backing projects with big stars as they put story-driven films aside.
“My husband, Aditya (Dhar), who directed ‘Uri’, even three years after the film was released, is working on one of his most ambitious films. But it’s up to him to explain his vision to the producers… There were only two or three who understood it and are working on it,” she said.
“The director needs more freedom to express his vision. We need to focus more on the story and the script… We need to review our priorities,” added the actor.
Citing examples of films like the “Baahubali” franchise, “KGF”, “Pushpa” and “RRR” series, Yami said these films prove that the producers trusted their directors and the story.
“The actors who are there (in these films) are huge stars, especially in the southern film industry and have pan-Indian audiences. I don’t think that stopped them anywhere. They believed in the director’s vision and went for it,” she added.
Rather than considering films from the Southern competition, the actress said she is happy that stories in other languages are also becoming popular in North India. mentioned.
